January 22, 1956 ---- February 1, 1962

Daryle Ryan, six year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Daryle Ryan of Eagle Grove, was killed instantly about 3:30 p.m. Feb. 1 when he was run over by a school bus at the Lincoln school here. The youngster had just been dismissed from school when he tumbled off a snow bank and under the rear wheels of the bus which was to have taken him home. Police Chief R. L. Koob said the dual wheels apparently passed over the boy's head and chest. He said an Eagle Grove physician and the Wright County medical examiner concurred that death was instantaneous.

Driver of the bus was Ralph Stafford, 50, of Eagle Grove. The accident occurred a few feet north of the intersection of North West First Street and Hewett Avenue. The bus came from the east on First and turned north on Hewett in preparation for loading children. The exact cause has not been determined but somehow Daryle tripped or fell from a mound of snow beside the street and slid under the bus.

Daryle, who had celebrated his birthday Jan. 22, was one of a family of seven children. He is survived by his parents, two brothers and four sisters.

This accident is the first to involve a motor vehicle fatality in Wright County in 1962. Eagle Grove also listed the first fatality in 1961 when Mrs. Kay Roseland died as a result of injuries suffered in an auto accident here.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the Methodist church with Rev. Lyle W. Lieder officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.

Daryle Dean Ryan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daryle L. Ryan was born Jan. 22, 1956 in Clarion. The family moved to Eagle Grove when Daryle was two and one half years old. He was baptized in the Methodist church in Eagle Grove and died at the age of six years, ten days. At the time of his death he was a student at Lincoln Elementary school.

He is survived by his parents, two brothers, Walter Eugene and Rickie Ray and four sisters, Valenda Kae, Diana Lee, Waneta Mae, and Cathryn Ann. He is also survived by his maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. James Babcock of Clarion.
