St. Cloud, MN --- Arlene J. "Jean" Smith, 86, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2017 at Country Manor in Sartell, MN. Jean, the daughter of Charles and Anna (Thompson) Anderson, was born April 3, 1931 near Clarion, IA. She attended country schools in the area. She was united in marriage with Bradford Virgil Smith on August 8, 1950. The couple made their home in St. Cloud. Arlene was raised by her brothers and sisters after her mother's death. She worked part-time jobs, but was mainly a homemaker. After the death of her husband on February 9, 2016, Arlene lived alone in her home in St. Cloud. She loved to spend time with her son; they were very close since he lived nearby in Sauk Rapids. She enjoyed cooking and baking for others. She loved to listen to music. Jean was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Cloud. Jean was kind, loving, and generous to a fault, always helping others. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her children, Susan Tostevin of Edina, Diane Brown of Dallas, TX and Randall (Elizabeth) Smith of Sauk Rapids; her sisters, Helen Busick of Clarion, IA and Ruth (Harold) Lamfers of Salina, KS; grandchildren, Joel Klopp, Joshua Galster and Keith Foster; great grandchild, Taylor Galster. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Brad, her parents, four sisters, Betty Delger, Gladys Spanhower, Mildred Smit, and Julia Swenson, and five brothers, George, Chuck, Alvin, Norville, and Roger Anderson.
