October 13, 1878 ---- January 1, 1944

Lyman E. Benedict was born Oct. 13, 1878, in Hennepin, Illinois, son of Winfield Scott and Ada (Wilde) Benedict. As a young lad he went with his parents to Iowa, living for a long time at Dows, Iowa. When 17 years of age he first came to Montana with stock for the Jamieson outfit from Bow, and followed ranching for a time. About 1900 Benedict was in the commission business with Greteuman-Swanson at Duluth, Minn.

Benedict was married in 1906 to Hulda C. Dahlstrom at Wheaton, Minn. In 1917 Benedict came to Great Falls to make his home, being at the time a shoe salesman. All his years in Montana he had been a salesman and for the last 15-18 years he had been connected with the Midland Implement Co. Benedict's work had taken him to nearly every part of Montana, giving him a wide acquaintance and scores of long standing friends.

In addition to his wife, Hulda, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. D. W. Hutchinson, librarian at the officers' training school at Camp Stoneman, Calif., and Mrs. O. N. Ness of Billings. Mr. and Mrs. Ness were here at the time of Mr. Benedict's death. Corporal D. W. Hutchinson is expected today. Two grandchildren also survive.
