John M. “Jack” Beyer, 73, of Sioux City, died Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, at his residence in Sioux City, surrounded by his loving family. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with a Knights of Columbus rosary at 6:30 p.m., followed by a time of sharing, at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
John “Jack” Miles Beyer, the son of Francis and Geneva (Young) Beyer, was born Nov. 30, 1943, in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He graduated from Central High School in 1963. On April 27, 1968, Jack was united in marriage with Frances “Patty” Whicher at Blessed Sacrament Church. He became a machinist at Sioux Tools and proudly worked there for 35 years until his retirement in 2002.
Jack was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Church, served as an usher for many years, and was a 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus. He was active with the Cub Scouts, and participated in many scout activities with his son. A great sports enthusiast, Jack was an avid golfer (sometimes teeing up before sunrise) and also a passionate football fan. He also was master of the BBQ grill and especially enjoyed his years of grilling for the Knights of Columbus. He was a very social person and made friends wherever he went.
Jack is survived by his wife, Patty of Sioux City; two sons, Kevin Beyer of Sioux City, and Patrick (Amanda) Beyer of Sioux City; two brothers, Robert (Mary) Beyer of Vienna, Va., and F. Richard (Monica) Beyer of Bellevue, Wash.; many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins; David and John Becker, whom he loved like grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family has requested that memorials be directed to Mid-Step Services, Blessed Sacrament or Siouxland Hospice.
