Funeral services for Erwin L (Jack) Schroder, 65, were held from First Lutheran Church in Dows, Friday, July 9, 1993, at 11:00 a.m. Pastors Thomas and Debra Hankins officiated and burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Dows. Elledge Funeral Home of Dows was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Leola Holmes was the organist and Eugene and Randy Frohling sang a duet. Honorary casket bearers were George Anderson, Bruce Avery, Charles Bahr Jr., Eugene Frohling, Robert Hess, Roy T. Johnson, E. E. Matson, Eugene Nelson, Ralph Turner, and Ben Urban. Casket bearers were Allen Boyington, Darwin Watt, David Watt, Lyle Watt, and Wayne Watt.

Jack died Tuesday, July 6, 1993 at Iowa Methodist medical center in Des Moines following a brief illness. He was born in Dows, June 19, 1928 to Harry and Arlene (Watt) Schroder. He grew up in Dows and graduated from Dows High School in 1946. On August 16, 1951, he joined the Iowa Highway Patrol. In 1953 he enlisted in the US Army and served until honorably discharged in 1955. After hi discharge from the Army he returned to the Iowa Highway Patrol until his resignation on September 15, 1958. In 1964 he started working or the farm service in Rowan. For 17 years he worked as a sub rural carrier for the Rowan Post Office and became a full-time carrier in February of 1981 and retired on June 1 1990.

Jack's first marriage was to Doris Boggs and she died in 1969. On September 11, 1970, he married Mabel Obrecht in Dows. They moved their home to Dows 3 years ago. Survivors include his mother, Arlene Thayer of Rowan; his wife, Mabel of Dows; 7 children, Tom of Clarion, Phillip of Rowan, Richard of Mason City, Sandi Grimm Holland of Fort Madison, Gary Obrecht of Webster City, Rosie Darland of Eagle Grove, and Paula Molstead of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 2 sisters, VaDonna Whipple of Alden and Rita Daniels of Guthrie Center. His father, 2 children; Douglas and Shelly, and 1 grandson, Ryan, preceded him in death. He was a member of the Iowa Rural Carriers Association and a past member of the Rowan Lions Club.
