Margaret R. Milota, 95, of Davenport, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at Genesis Medical Center — East Campus, Davenport. A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will be in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport. Visitation is 3-6 p.m. today at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport.

Margaret Ruth Axon was born Aug. 6, 1906, in Goldfield, Iowa, a daughter of Peter and Rosa (Steffen) Axon. On June 14, 1928, Margaret was united in marriage to Lumir E. "Lew" Milota in Goldfield, Iowa. He preceded her in death April 18, 1995. Margaret taught in Davenport schools for more than 15 years. She began teaching at J.B. Young, and, three years later, moved to Davenport High School (presently Central High School) where she taught until her retirement in 1961.

She was a 70-year member of the First Presbyterian Church, Davenport; and was a 40+-year member and past president of Genesis East Medical Center Auxiliary (formerly St. Luke's Auxiliary). She also was the founder and co-chairperson of the "Petals & Leaves Flower Shop" at Genesis East Medical Center. Margaret enjoyed travel, playing Bridge, working in her yard and garden, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Music Department or to Genesis East Medical Center Auxiliary.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Peg and Dick Wells, Bettendorf; grandchildren, Doug (Ami) Wells, Davenport, Bob (Kim) Wells, Hudson, Ohio, Susie (Rene) Villafuentes, Milwaukee, and Steve (Kate) Wells, Davenport; great-grandchildren, Chris and Carrie Wells, Jordan and Tyler Wells, Maggie, Emily and Becky Villafuentes, and Jacob and Brennan Wells. In addition to her husband, Margaret was preceded in death by two brothers.
