Roy Laverne Harter, formerly of Moline, died Aug. 18, 2007 in Mesa, Ariz. He was born Sept. 11, 1922, to Shellman and Marvel Harter. He graduated from United Township High School in East Moline and married Vivian Shipman from Rock Island. Vivian died in September 2005. Roy served his country in the Army Air Forces during World War II as a pilot and loved to fly. The Harters retired from their business of school photography in 1987 to travel the country in their motorhome. They spent their winters golfing in Apache Junction, Ariz.

Roy is survived by three children, Lynn Kelley, Steamboat Springs, Colo., Bruce Harter, El Sobrante, Calif., and Kristi Harter, Mesa. Roy and Vivian enjoyed three grandchildren, Daniel and Susie Harter and Kyla Morris, and one great-grandchild, Trenton. Roy's sisters, Hermione Schmidt, June Peterson and Betty Kracke, preceded him in death.
