Verna Lucille Deal, age 84, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away at her home October 20, 2009. Verna was born [near Thor, Iowa] September 30, 1925, to Harry and Gudrun (Berg) Stockdale. Verna worked in the healthcare profession as well as raising her beloved family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Gudrun Stockdale; daughter, Lori John; grandson, Daniel Yohnke; and granddaughter, Lori Jo John. Verna is survived by her children, Sandra Sandbothe, Linda Thompson, Peggy Yohnke, Earl Tuttle, Leonard Sandbothe, and Lynette Schmitt; twenty one grandchildren; and twenty three great-grandchildren. Services will be Friday, October 23, 2009, at 10 a.m., with visitation one hour prior at 9:00 a.m., at the Maher-Livingston Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in rural Pottawattamie County. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer’s Association or American Heart Association.
