Anna Evelyn Sheldon, the daughter of Ole and Olena Dokken Olson, was born on June 20, 1900 at Kensett, Iowa. She grew up and attended school in the Kensett area and later graduated from the Mason City High School. She continued her education at the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and earned her BA degree in education and taught school for several years. On June 22, 1927, she was united in marriage with Ole E. Sheldon of Thor at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waterloo. They made their home on a farm north of Thor and in 1939, Mr. Sheldon died. In 1941, Mrs. Sheldon enrolled in the graduate school at the University of Iowa and earned her MA degree in education and returned to a teaching career. She taught in various Iowa schools including Iowa City, Clinton and Webster City where she was the librarian at the junior college, as well as teaching some classes. For several years, she was the supervisor of the Special Education program in Buena Vista County, Iowa. After her retirement in 1963, she spent three years as a volunteer teacher in the Piney Woods Country Life school at Piney Woods, Miss. Then she served as a housemother for a sorority at Morningside College at Sioux City and later moved to Thor. For the past year, she had been a resident of the East Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge. She was a long-time member of the Ullensvang Lutheran Church and was a member of the Delta Kappa Society, an International Honor Society in Education and was a member of the Kappa Chapter in Fort Dodge.

She died at the East Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge on Thursday evening, May 5, 1983 at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 15 days. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Merlin and Marlys Fischer of Thor; two grandchildren, Marlin Fischer of Los Angeles, Calif, and Marla Sue Fischer of Thor; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ida Vorrie of Thor and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother, Ellert Olson.

Funeral services for Mrs. Anna E. Sheldon were held on Monday, May 9, 1983 at the Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor at 2 p.m. Rev. Timothy Larson, church pastor officiated and burial was in the Blossom Hill Cemetery near Badger. Visitation was held at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove.
