A Celebration of Life for Austin "A.J." Penning, 28, of Britt, will be held Thursday at 7:00 PM at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Wesley. His family will greet friends from 4 to 7 PM Thursday at the Funeral Home. A graveside inurnment will be held at 10 AM on Friday at Evergreen Cemetery, Wesley.

Austin James Penning was born November 1, 1988, in Belmond, son of Gary Penning. He grew up in St. Benedict where he was raised by his grandparents and he attended CWL Schools. At the age of 13, Austin moved to Greenwood, WI, where he graduated high school in 2007. He then attended Western Technical College in Lacrosse, WI, graduating in 2010 with a degree in graphic design. Austin enjoyed his trip to Walt Disney World and many other blessings which were made possible through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Austin moved to Britt in 2010 working for Shipman Finishing until 2014 when he began working for Unicover. Everywhere he worked he made lifelong friends. On June 28, 2014, he was married to Taryn Silber in Britt. Austin loved the outdoors, enjoying fishing, camping, golfing and Frisbee golf, and jet-skiing. His love of the outdoors came from the countless days he spent fishing with his grandma and other family and friends. Austin J. Penning died Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Methodist Hospital, Rochester, MN, following a 15-year battle Hodgkin's lymphoma. He was 28.

He is survived by his father, Gary Penning of Titonka; his wife, Taryn Penning of Britt; two brothers, Greg (Michelle) Penning and their children Trysta and Tayler of Algona, and Jeremy (Karla) Penning and their son Jacob of Britt; two aunts, Gloria Peterson of Algona, and Joanne (Carl) Nord of Titonka; and six cousins, Tammie Steinman, David Peterson, Mark Peterson, Amber Kelly, and Carrie Nord, and Dawn Schlichting. He is also survived by his parents-in-law, Jason and Danise Silber of Britt; a brother-in-law, Tyler Silber of Britt; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harold and Betty (Seifert) Penning; his uncle, Steve Penning; and his grandfather-in-law, Jerry Peterson.
