Bernard G. Hoff, 88, of Belmond, died Sunday, May 14, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Society Care Center in Forest City. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday, June 10, at the Bethel Lutheran Church, 3906 Bluebill Ave., Joice, IA 50446. Pastor Kevin Olsen will be officiating. Visitation is 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the church prior to funeral services. Burial with full military honors will be in the Belmond Cemetery. Andrews Funeral Home, Belmond, is handling funeral arrangements.

Bernard G. Hoff, age 88, of Belmond, IA, most recently a resident of the Good Samaritan Society Care Facility, Forest City, IA, died, peacefully, May 14, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Society Care Facility in Forest City. Funeral services will be at 11 AM Saturday, June 10, 2017, at Bethel Lutheran Church, Joice, 3906 Blue Bill Avenue, Joice, IA 50446. The Reverend Kevin Olson will be officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by the Belmond Military Unit will be in the Belmond Cemetery. Visitation in Belmond will be held at the Andrews Funeral Home, 516 1st Street S.E., Belmond from 5-630 PM Friday evening and will continue from 9:30 am until 11 AM at church Saturday. Expressions of the sympathies and memorials may be sent to Bernard's son Lindsey Hoff, 1077 Mt. Loretta, Sherrill, IA 52073.

Bernard George Hoff, the son of George and Mabel (Slattum) Hoff, was born on June 14, 1928 in Mason City, IA. Bernard was baptized and confirmed in Mason City during his youth and attended Mason City Schools where he graduated from high school. he then attended North Iowa Community College for a time before enlisting in the United States Air Force. During his time in the Air Force Academy he got ill and transferred into the United States Army where her served much of his tenure in the Korean Conflict. While proudly serving his country he had been involved in numerous of the main battles of this Conflict and was wounded during his time of military action. He was a part of the Korean Beach Landing at Ichon, near Soul Korea. His main roles were in Air Defense and duties included times in the operation of an M-16 Quadratrac. Bernard was Honorably Discharged as a Lieutenant.

Upon returning to civilian life Bernard was united in marriage to Norma Jean Wright in Mason City, IA. Following their marriage the couple spent times residing in Macon, GA, then Spencer, IA, Dumont, IA, and settled in Hampton, IA, in 1973. They later moved to Lime Springs, IA, Cresco, IA, and eventually moved to Belmond, IA, in 1978, where Bernard spent the next 38 years. Norma Jean died in October 2010.

In the early times of his career life, Bernard was employed in journalism. For much of his life he was a traveling salesman, a career that he was very good at as he could talk to almost anyone and it was like he knew you his whole life. Most of his sales journeys were to ladies clothing stores throughout the region with his main lines being ladies sportswear apparel. Bernard never had any true enemies in his life journey. He and his wife were very active in their faith lives both during their years at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hampton, IA, and in St. John Lutheran Church, Belmond, IA for all the years until it closed. Bernard was a very dutiful husband during the time of his wife's health decline and eventual passing, both caring for as long as he could in their home and then consistently traveling to be at her side during her years at the Westview Care Center, Britt, IA. The two enjoyed raising and caring for their Egyptian Mau cats, spending time in their flowers and gardening. Bernard was also a great supporter of his wife in her love for painting and worked along side her at various art shows where she would often peddle her works.

In more recent years Bernard truly looked forward to twice a day outings to the Bloemke Pharmacy in Belmond where he created countless friendships and shared infinite stories with one another. He was looking forward to a new chapter in the golden years of his wife as he was planning to marry Marilyn Heimdal of Forest City, June 3rd of this year.

Bernard is survived by his son, Lindsey (Elizabeth) Hoff, Dubuque, IA; a daughter Cynthia; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. he was preceded in death by his parents, a son Gerald Hoff, brothers Merlin and Marion Hoff, and numerous other family and friends.
