Charles J. Johnson, the son of Charles A. and Bessie C. (Nelson) Johnson, was born on October 31, 1927, in Badger, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth. Chuck served in the United States Navy on the USS Kershaw APA-176 in Yokosaka, Japan during W.W. II from March of 1945 until his honorable discharge in December of 1947.

On November 6, 1949, Chuck married Norma Lee Hamer at the First Baptist Church in Eagle Grove. She preceded him in death on March 28, 1966. On August 1, 1970, Chuck married Marilyne (Giere) Brown at Christ Lutheran Church in Menomonie, WI. Chuck farmed southeast of Eagle Grove for 70 years and sold seed corn and beans for O's Gold and Asgrow. He was an active member of Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove.

Chuck passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center, at the age of 89 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Morris and Lea Hamer; brother, Kermit Johnson (Fern); sisters, Ethel Tesdahl (Gene), Emily Long (Carl), Burnette Johnson and Gen Hamer; brothers-in-law, Lawrence Murphy, Floyd Kubly (Doris), Howard Hamer (Ceda), Arvid Bauman, William Riedel (Margaret), Walter Lausted (Ida), Richard Hansen (Stella), Vernon Giere (Lorraine), Lennart Johnson (Jeanette), Raymond Giere, Donald Jenson, Donald Mense and Roger Giere and sisters-in-law, Sharon Johnson, Catherine Schoenoff-Giere and Audrey Peterson. Chuck is survived by his wife, Marilyne Johnson of Eagle Grove; daughters, Becky Fjetland (Bill) of Algona, Mona Schonberg (Mark) of Lawrence, KS, Linda Johnson of Ft. Collins, CO and Beth Johnson of Lawrence, KS; sons, Michael Johnson of Lawrence, KS and Robert Brown (Brenda) of Ames; six grandchildren: Shala Fjetland-Cotner (Nick) of Littleton, CO, Sonja Everhart (Doug) of Lawrence, KS, Bethany McKenzie (Jason) of Arlington, SD, Jayd Brown of Ames, Jason Schonberg (Regina) of Crossroads, TX and Grant Fjetland (Megan) of West Des Moines; eleven great-grandchildren: Jacob Everhart, Adam Everhart, Carson McKenzie, Cody McKenzie, Brett Schonberg, Will Fjetland, Zachary Cotner, Quynn Cotner, Nyah Everhart, Emerson Schonberg and Mila Fjetland; brother, Richard Johnson of Florida; brothers-in-law, Marvin (Bud) Hamer of Eagle Grove and Russell Peterson of Fond du Lac, WI; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Bauman of Eagle Grove, Margaret Murphy of Auburn, AL, Arlene Jenson of Mountain Home, AR, Geraldine Mense of Rice Lake, WI and Irma Brown of Menomonie, WI and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 26, 2017, at Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Pastor Rich Taylor officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. The family requests that memorials be made to Samuel Lutheran Church or the Eagle Grove Police and Ambulance Departments.
