September 27, 1889 --- October 2, 1965

George F. Paine, 76, member of a pioneer Eagle Grove family, died of a heart condition early Saturday morning at Lutheran hospital, Ft. Dodge. He had been in failing health for some time but had only been in the hospital two days.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the First Methodist church. The Rev. Bernard Olson and the Rev. Clarence Tompkins, of Friendship Haven, Ft. Dodge, a former pastor here, officiated. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery, with military rites by Clarence Shurtz Post, American Legion. Masonic services were conducted at the Sandvig Funeral Home on Sunday evening.

Mr. Paine is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Ronald Woolwitch of Hartford, Conn. (Margaret) and Mrs. Joseph B. Tiffin (Alice) of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by five grandchildren, two brothers Sumner and Leslie Paine of Eagle Grove and three sisters, Mrs. A. D. Middleton of Gothenberg, Neb., Mrs. Lester Gill of Tipton and Mrs. Everett Kennedy of Wadena, Minn.

Mr. Paine was born Sept. 27, 1889 to parents Mr. and Mrs. Frank L. Paine on a farm near Goldfield. He was married on June 2, 1927 to Miriam Hillyard of Dows. He served with the Army in World War I, and was a member of the American Legion. Since 1927 he had been a realtor here, and for many years was a member of the Wright County Board of Review. He was a member of the Methodist church, Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Lawrence and Homer.
