Debra Ann Forney, the daughter of Frank and Darline Cother Lorenzen, was born on June 9, 1954 at Storm Lake, Iowa. She grew up and received her education in Storm Lake. She graduated from the Storm Lake High School and attended Buena Vista College at Storm Lake. While still in college, she was married to David Forney at Storm Lake. The couple lived in Storm Lake for a time before coming to Eagle Grove to make their home and as part owners and operators of the Villager Restaurant in Eagle Grove. Debra died of injuries received in the crash of her car on Highway 17 at the north edge of Eagle Grove early Friday morning, September 3, 1982.
She is survived by her father, Frank Lorenzen of Tallahassee, Florida; her mother, Darline, Mrs. Paul Sangster of Skellytown, Tx.; her brother, Steve Lorenzen of Skellytown, Tx.; her grandmother, Mrs. Johanna Lorenzen of Newell, Iowa; her grandfather, Leonard Cother of Spirit Lake, Iowa and other relatives and friends.
Deb loved to play sports and was active in the Softball and volleyball leagues in Eagle Grove and surrounding areas. During her years in Eagle Grove, she had made many friends, because of her friendliness and spirit and she will be greatly missed by all.
Funeral services for Deb Forney, 28, of Eagle Grove, were held on Tuesday, September 7, 1982 at 10 A.M. at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove with Rev. Don Callen officiating. Burial was in the Lake View Cemetery at Spirit Lake with the Rev. Harrison Dawes officiating at the graveside at 3 p.m. Visitation was held at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove.

EG Woman Killed in one car fatalityAn Eagle Grove woman was pronounced dead at the scene of a one vehicle accident about 7 a.m. Friday, one-fourth of a mile north of Eagle Grove on Highway 17. A Wright County Sheriff spokesman reported that Debra Ann Forney, 28, was southbound on Highway 17 about 2 a.m. when her 1982 Mercury swerved to the left and went out of control. The vehicle flipped several times before landing in a beanfield throwing Forney from the vehicle. The accident was reported about 6:55 a.m. Friday, by an employee of M and M Livestock Co. who noticed a car on its top in the beanfield. Goldfield and Eagle Grove Police Departments assisted at the scene and the woman was pronounced dead by County Medical Examiner Dr. Dale Harding. Officials said the accident is still under investigation. Forney was the manager of the Villager Restaurant in Eagle Grove. This is the second accident fatality in Wright County this year with the first fatality of the year occurring only two weeks ago.
