March 5, 1895 --- August 29, 1982

Mrs. Marie Conaway, the daughter of Jacob and Martha Hovland, was born on March 5, 1895 at Kanawha, Iowa. She grew up and attended school in the Kanawha area. On June 6, 1923, she was united in marriage with Rutherford R. Conaway at Kanawha. After their marriage they lived in Eagle Grove and later moved to Des Moines, where they lived until they retired. They later moved back to Eagle Grove. Mr. Conaway died on Feb. 15, 1978. Marie died at the Dows Care Center on Sunday evening, Aug. 29, 1982, at the age of 87 years, 5 months and 24 days. She had been a resident of the Care Center for the past 3-1/2 years.

She is survived by her son, Donald and his wife, Betty Conaway of Eagle Grove; three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Thomas of Eagle Grove; Lenore and her husband, Everett Underwood of Albion, Iowa; Phyllis and her husband, Delmar Rengstorf of Portersville, Calif.; 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother George and a sister, Mrs. Laura Ellingston.

Funeral services for Mrs. Marie Conaway were held on Thursday, Sept. 2, 1982 at 10:30 a.m. at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Rev. Paul Schaedig officiated and burial was in the family lot at Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
