Sylvan Gernet Wood, the son of George and Betsy Dobbe Wood, was born at Eagle Grove, Iowa on Nov. 11, 1909. He grew up in Eagle Grove and attended the Eagle Grove schools. For several years, he was an auto mechanic in Eagle Grove. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. Later, he was in business with his brothers for many years and they owned and operated an electrical and television repair and sales business. For the past several years, he had been retired. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a former member of the Odd Fellows Lodge.

He died on Wednesday morning, October 17, 1984 at the Humboldt County Hospital in Humboldt after an illness of several months. He attained the age of 74 years, 11 months and 6 days. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Lillian Lageson of Fairmont, Minn.; a brother, Tom Wood of Humboldt. He was preceded in death by his parents, and six brothers: Leonard, Ed, Anfin, James, Elmer and Bert.

Funeral services for Sylvan G. Wood, 74, of Eagle Grove, were held on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Rev. Paul Schaedig, church pastor, officiated and burial was in the family lot in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Visitation was held at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home.
