MASON CITY — Lisa A. Vanfosson-Nelson, 51, of Mason City died Sunday (February 17, 2013) at her home in Mason City. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday (February 21, 2013) at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. N.E., Mason City, with Ken Quintus of the Fourteenth Street Gospel Place officiating. Per Lisa’s wishes, cremation will take place following the service. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening (February 20, 2013) from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel and will continue one hour prior to Lisa’s service on Thursday. Should friends desire, memorials may be left in Lisa’s name in care of her husband, Michael Nelson, 412 2nd St. N.W., Mason City, Iowa, 50401.

Lisa Ann Vanfosson was born on February 5, 1962, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Leo and Alice (Provo) Vanfosson. She was raised in Glenwood, Iowa, and attended Glenwood High School.

Lisa was known as a “Jack of All Trades,” working various jobs throughout the years. She was a movie buff who loved watching new and old flicks as well as her favorite TV shows. In her free time Lisa enjoyed crocheting, glass etching, watching Michael’s band, and perusing various thrift and consignment stores for forgotten treasures.

As a devoted member of the A.A. program, Lisa was always available to help someone in need, friend or stranger alike. She was essential to many people’s sobriety over the years. Lisa will be remembered for her loving and caring heart and her empathy for others.

The love she shared for her family and friends was unparalleled to any other. She loved spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren, spoiling her grandchildren at every opportunity.
