Thomas E. Payne, 69, of Fort Dodge, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at Friendship Haven, Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 22, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church, with Msgr. Kevin McCoy Officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be at Newark Township Cemetery, near Vincent. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 21, 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Martha and their son, Michael (McCallie Jaeschke); grandchildren, Quintin, Marvin, Decklyn; sisters, Patricia and Pamela. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Joseph.
Thomas Payne, the son of John Howard and Addrienne (Westering) Payne, was born December 11, 1946 at Lake City and graduated from Boys Town, Omaha, NE. Tom was united in marriage to Martha Algoe on June 27, 1981 at Corpus Christi Church, Fort Dodge. For 13 years Tom worked for and became co-owner with David O'Leary at Hawkeye Paint Company. In 1978, he became co-owner with Jim Bird of the Hayloft Lounge. Tom and Jim opened Marvin Gardens Restaurant in 1981 which is now known as Olde Bostons. Their business expanded with the addition of a partner, Joe Cain, and they formed the corporation T. J. & J which includes Sports Page in Fort Dodge and Spencer, Mineral City Mill and Grill in Fort Dodge and Arnold's Park, and Olde Bostons in Fort Dodge. Tom retired in 2014. He was a member of Corpus Christi Church. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
