Jerry Mervin Timmerman, the son of Henry and Greone (Kessler) Timmerman, was born August 23, 1939, in Elma, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Eagle Grove, graduating in 1957 from Eagle Grove High School. He lived in Saratoga for 5 years, Woolstock, and Eagle Grove for 43 years. Jerry worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad on tie and rail gangs throughout Iowa, retiring in 1988. Upon retirement Jerry moved to Camanche and then to Des Moines. In 2003 Jerry moved into Rotary Ann Nursing home in Eagle Grove where he has enjoyed and tormented the staff there for 14 years.

Jerry, a lifelong Dodgers fan, played baseball in high school and was known to have a mean curve ball. He later coached little league. In addition to his love of baseball, he was an avid bowler, enjoyed hunting at Elm Lake, and fishing the many lakes and rivers of north central Iowa. He also loved playing cards: euchre, hearts, spades, and was exceptionally good at cribbage. Jerry also enjoyed movies and early rock and roll and country western music and was a huge James Dean and Elvis Presley fan. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing with his friends.

Jerry was a member of AA since 1988 and enjoyed his sobriety and many AA friends for the past 28 years. He also served his community as a member of the Eagle Grove Lions Club.

Jerry passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017, at Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 77 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant children (Mollie and Scott), step-son Shane Christenson, and a brother, Fred Timmerman. Survivors include his children: Tom Wenck (Laura) of West Des Moines, John Wenck (Sandy) of Des Moines, Anita Harle (Ken) of Goldfield, Joey Timmerman (Katie) of Pleasant Hill and Ann Fankhauser (Joe) of Ankeny; brothers: Dale Timmerman (Ilene) of Belmond, Ted Timmerman (Ambie) of Eagle Grove; sisters: Gloria Butler (Bob) of Camanche, Mary Ryerson of Scarville, and Beverly Timmerman of Eagle Grove; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, 11:30 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to services at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Mark Peterson officiating.
