May 19, 1928 ---- March 9, 2017

Orville Duane Steffenson, the son of Andrew Martin and Myrtle Gray (Chapman) Steffenson, was born May 19, 1928, on a farm north of Goldfield. He grew up in rural Goldfield attending Liberty #6 Country School and was baptized and confirmed at the Holmes Lutheran Church. Orville received an honorable discharge after serving in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1950-1952. On February 14, 1953, Orville was united in marriage to Charlotte Ann Quintus at United Methodist Church in Clarion. They lived in Eagle Grove for a short time before moving to a farm north of Goldfield. It was on that farm where he started his life's journey in farming with the close help of a family friend, Clarence Larson. Orville continued farming until retiring in 2005, when he moved into Goldfield where he lived until his death.

Orville's love for horses would grow to be his greatest hobby. He took his colts to shows at both the Iowa's and Minnesota's State Fairs. Many awards were won from these shows. Orville was also a dedicated "Hawkeye" fan. If you were not a "Hawkeye" fan there was nothing more to discuss. His passion for fishing with friends took him to Minnesota every year. Orville was a wrestling fan and traveled to many NCWA Tournaments.

Orville was a longtime member of Holmes Lutheran Church. He was proud of sharing that some of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were baptized and confirmed in the church, celebrating 6 generations of Steffenson's. His pride also came in knowing he was Norwegian. Orville lived simply and his love of his family and friends radiated every time you would walk into a room.

Orville passed away March 9, 2017, at Clarion Wellness and Rehab at the age of 88 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Rodney Steffenson; brothers, Alvin Steffenson, Andrew (Rosina) Steffenson, Norman (Louise) Steffenson, Kenneth Steffenson and Carol Steffenson and sisters, Betty (Kurt) Sunner and Mary Ann (Robert) Lane. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Charlotte Steffenson of Goldfield; daughters, Julie (Kevin) Reed of Goldfield, Jean (Jack) Bair of Elkhart and Jan (Bill) Douglas of Goldfield; son, Duane Steffenson of Goldfield; 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; sister, Merlyn (Jerry) Tjelle of Holt, MO and sister-in-law, Bev Steffenson of Goldfield.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at Holmes Lutheran Church with Pastor Richard Taylor officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Holmes Lutheran Cemetery near Holmes.
