DAVENPORT, IOWA — Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for James B. O’Connor, 93, a resident of Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1923 N. Fillmore St., Davenport, celebrated by his grandson, the Rev. Brian O’Connor. Burial will take place in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main St., Davenport, with the rosary prayed at 6:30 p.m. Mr. O’Connor died Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Senior Star assisted living in Davenport.

James Berven O’Connor was born Feb. 19, 1924, in Clarion, Iowa, the son of William C. and Bertille M. (Broderick) O’Connor. He moved to Davenport, graduating from Davenport High School in 1942 and then attended St. Ambrose College. Jim proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was united in marriage to Eleanor Lucille Bach on July 17, 1948, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Davenport. They shared more than 67 years of marriage together, prior to her passing Nov. 29, 2015. Jim had worked as an inside salesman for Deco Tool Supply Company, retiring in 1987.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus–3rd Degree and Holy Name Society. He enjoyed playing golf, and painting using both watercolor and acrylic. Memorials may be made to All Saints Catholic School or Assumption High School.

Jim is survived by his children and their spouses, Rosemary (Larry) O’Haver of Davenport, Thomas (Marcia) O’Connor of Bettendorf, Dennis (Diannia) O’Connor of Pickerington, Ohio, Carol Ann (Paul) Eccleston of Corpus Christi, Texas, Joseph (Melissa) O’Connor of Chanhassen, Minnesota, Mary Ellen (Joseph) Metzger of Urbandale, Iowa, and John (Elaine) O’Connor of East Moline; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his sister, Sr. Mary M. O’Connor, BVM, Dubuque, and several loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Catherine “Kay” Glancy, and his brother, Edward O’Connor. May they rest in peace.

His family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to the staffs of Senior Star assisted living and Hospice Compassus for their loving care and compassion over the past few months.
