Berniece A. Peterson, 101, of Waterloo, died at Friendship Village Pavilion Tuesday, February 14, 2017 of natural causes. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Locke Funeral Home in Waterloo, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be an hour before services Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Westminster Presbyterian Church or to Friendship Village Auxiliary.

She was born January 12, 1916 in Dows, IA, daughter of Carl and Alma Olson Weber and graduated from Dows High School in 1933 and from Hawkeye Community College as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in 1967. She married Edmond R. Peterson on June 12, 1937 at the First Presbyterian Church in Dows; he died September 22, 2011. Berniece was an LPN for 20 years at St. Francis Hospital and retired from Covenant Medical Center. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church since 1938 and served as a deacon. She was a member of PEO Chapter LO, Friendship Village Auxiliary, Westminster Sewing Group as well as volunteered with the Red Cross and the Salvation Army. Berniece and Edmond travelled to every state and also went abroad.

She is survived by her daughter, Darlene (Reuben) Drefs of Toledo, OH; daughter, Janet (Jim) Ross of Iowa City, IA; son, Gordon (Lisa) Peterson of Cedar Rapids, IA; six grandchildren: Dwight (Justine) Drefs, Debra (Jim) Asbury, Julia (Tom Boyle) Ross, Jeffrey Ross, Hanna Peterson, and Halle Peterson; five great‑grandchildren: Elizabeth, Caroline and Victoria Asbury and Claire and Adam Drefs; two sisters, Lavon Rastetter of Buckeye, IA and Marie (Marvin) Meyer of Iowa Falls, IA; and sister-in-law, Verla Weber of Minnesota. Berniece is preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Seth Weber and Earl Weber; and two sisters, DeElda Frodin and Elaine Schroeder.
