Young Wife With Unnumbered Dead

MRS. L. O. THOMPSON SUCCUMBED TO TYPHOID FEVER.

Beautiful Life Ended Before Age of Twenty Had Been Reached.

After a week of intense suffering from the ravages of typhoid fever, augmented by complications, Mrs. L. O. Thompson, died last night between the hours of 12 and 1 o'clock at the home of Mr. Thompson's parents in Nashua. The death had been anticipated, physicians having given up hope of recovery several days ago and all members of the family were permitted to visit the bedside before the end came. Mrs. J. S. VanSchoyck, mother of the young wife, returned yesterday from California and was able to reach her daughter's side before death came, racing from Waterloo to Nashua in an automobile. Several weeks ago Mrs. Thompson was compelled to undergo a surgical operation at the Presbyterian hospital in this city and she had recovered from this illness, when she went to Nashua for a season of rest to recuperate her strength. She was there attacked by typhoid fever. Mrs. Thompson would have been twenty years of age on Sept. 14 next had she lived. She had been married just three days longer than a year, she having been united in marriage to L. O. Thompson, secretary, of the boys' department of the Y. M. C. A. in this city, on Sept. 1, 1909. While it was known generally that no hope was entertained for the recovery of Mrs. Thompson her death will be a severe shock to the wide circle of friends which she had attracted to her by her beauty of character. She was an active religious worker, being associated with the congregation of the First M. E. church of Waterloo. The maiden name of the decedent was Esta VanSchoyck and she was born in McLean county, near Bloomington, Illinois, coming to Waterloo in her girlhood. She attended west high school. The short years of her life were spent largely in works for others and she will be sadly missed from the circles where she was well known. Other than her mother there are two sisters and five brothers surviving. The sisters are Mrs. J. L. Gustefson and Miss Ethel. The brothers are Charles, Lloyd, Rosco, Harvey and Lysle, all of Waterloo. The grandmother, Mrs. L. A. Webb, also survives and makes her home with Mrs. VanSchoyck at 327 Jefferson street. J. E. Webb, of the firm of Bradbury & Webb, is an uncle. The funeral will be conducted at Nashua, but definite arrangements for the services have not been completed.
