Funeral services for Frank Mulligan, pioneer Eagle Grove citizen, were held on Saturday, Oct. 31, 1942, with Solemn Requiem Mass in Sacred Heart church at ten o'clock and internment in Calvary cemetery. Celebrant of the Mass was Very Rev. Thomas C. Mulligan, S. S., son of the deceased; Rev. Francis P. Mulligan and Rev. John Howell of Dubuque were deacon and subdeacon. The Very Rev. John L. Byrne preached the sermon. Other members of the clergy present were Rev. Fathers Molloy of Ryan, Sullivan of Masonville, Frein of Webster City, O'Donnell of Clarion, and Ormsby of Belmond. Pall bearers were Maurice Noonan, James Whalen, Harold Sterling, Earl Maloney, John Henneberry and George Wright.

Frank Mulligan was born in Louisa county, Iowa, on Oct. 5, 1858. His parents, Patrick Mulligan and Sarah White Mulligan, natives of County Cavan and County Tipperary, Ireland, were married in Clinton, N.J. and came to Iowa shortly before their son, Francis, was born. They soon settled on a farm near Tama, Iowa, where Frank Mulligan grew to manhood. As a boy he attended the country school of the district. On Dec. 13, 1888, Frank Mulligan married Johanna O'Connor in St. Patricks church, Tama, and in April of the following year, the young couple came to make their home in Eagle Grove, and here were born their seven children. From the time of his arrival in Eagle Grove, Mr. Mulligan was active in the commercial life of the city. He was first engage in the transfer and ice business, then for many years in the hardware and implement firm of Mulligan & Miller, and later on he served the community as street commissioner and superintendent of the waterworks. During more than fifty years he was identified with civic, social and religious life of the city and state. He was a life-long Democrat, and while tireless in his personal efforts, he was constantly an inspiration and a guide to the younger generation to work for further progressive measures in the political and social fields. He was a charter member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and of the Knights of Columbus. He was always a faithful and devoted Catholic; and an active member of Sacred Heart parish from its first organization. On October 5, Mr. Mulligan celebrated his 84th birthday. On Oct. 19 he was stricken with apoplexy, and died on October 28, at 7:25 in the evening.

He survived by his wife, Mrs. Johanna Mulligan; his daughters, Gertrude and Helen Mulligan of Des Moines; his sons, Very Rev. Thomas C. Mulligan of Seattle, Wash., Walter B. Mulligan of Tyndall, S. Dak., and John H. Mulligan of Chicago; by eight grandchildren, including Francis J. Mulligan of Rochester, N.Y. and Mrs. Harold Beckholt of Spartanburg, S.C., who made their home for many years with their grandparents; and by two sisters, Mrs. Mary Kinney and Mrs. Ellen Brick of Des Moines. Among the out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral were the following: Gertrude and Helen Mulligan of Des Moines; Very Rev. Thomas C. Mulligan of Seattle, Wash.; Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Mulligan, Maryann and Jerry of Tyndall, S. Dak.; John H. Mulligan of Chicago; Mrs. D. Enright and Clarence Mulligan of Tama; Leo and Nellie Cummings of Toledo; John Cummings of Van Horne; John Kearney and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Foley of Clutier; Mr. and Mrs. Hugh McLean of Traer; Mrs. Patrick Mulligan and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mulligan of Bancroft; Mrs. Sadie Frankl and John Frankl of Algona; Mrs. Bernard Frankl and Camilla, Marguerite Mulligan and Mrs. Dole of Irvington; Lucille and Marguerite O'Hagan of Waterloo; John F. Hynes, Harry G. Wilson and R. L. Carson of Des Moines; Misses Genevieve Flynn, Bernice Cronin, LaVere Schroyer and Merle Kessler of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Theo McCarton of Pocahontas; Mr. and Mrs. Chris Joehnck of Fort Dodge.
