April 8, 1859 ---- October 4, 1944

Joanna O'Connor, daughter of Dennis D. and Johanna Lacey O'Connor, was born April 8, 1859 at Tama, Iowa. On December 13, 1883 she married Frank Mulligan in St. Patrick's Church, Tama, Ia., and in April of the following year they moved to Eagle Grove, where they have since made their home. Mrs. Mulligan was preceded in death by her husband and two children, Francis and Sadie. She is survived by her daughters, Gertrude and Helen of Des Moines, Very Rev. Thomas C. Mulligan of Menlo Park, Calif., Walter B. of San Rafael, Calif., John H. of Chicago, by one great grandchild and eight grandchildren, including Francis J. Mulligan of Rochester, N. Y., and Mrs. Harold R. Beckholt of Spartanburg, So. Carolina, who made their home for many years with their grandparents.

Among, the out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral were the following: Gertrude and Helen Mulligan of Des Moines; Very Rev. Thos. C. Mulligan of Menlo Park, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. John H. Mulligan, Patricia, Helen, Joan and Thomas, of Chicago; Mrs. D. Enright, and daughter, Margaret, and C. L. Mulligan of Tama; John Kearney of Clutier; Mr. and Mrs. Hugh McLean of Traer; Mrs. Patrick Mulligan and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mulligan of Bancroft, Ringsdorf of Britt, Mrs. Sadie Frankl of Algona, Mrs. Bernard Frankl and Marguerite Mulligan of Irvington, Lucille and Marguerite O'Hagan of Waterloo, Walter and John Brick, John F. Hynes, Harry G. Wilson, R. L. Carson, Misses Genevieve Flynn, Bernice Cronin and Merle Kesler of Des Moines, and Mr. and Mrs. Theo. McCarton of Pocahontas.

Rites Held Saturday For Mrs. Mulligan. At ten o'clock Saturday morning, Oct. 7, 1944, funeral services were held in Sacred Heart Church, Eagle Grove, Iowa for Mrs. Frank Mulligan, who died at her home on No. Washington Ave., Wednesday morning, Oct. 4. The Most Rev. Henry P. Rohlman, D. D., Coadjutor Archbishop of Dubuque, presided in the sanctuary and gave the last absolution at the end of Mass. Chaplains to the Archbishop were Rev. Robert E. Aycock, S. S., and Rev. John C. Selner, S. S., both from St. Mary's Seminary, Baltimore. The Archbishop was attended by Rev. Leo Jaeger, J. C. D., of Dubuque, master of ceremonies, Rev. David Gorman of Webster City, candle bearer, Rev. Paul Lavalette of Tama, book bearer, and Rev. Robert Ormsby of Belmond, mitre bearer. Very Rev. Thomas C. Mulligan, S. S., son of the deceased and president of St. Patrick's Seminary, Menlo Park, Calif., was celebrant of the Solemn Requiem Mass. Rev. John Howell, professor at Loras College, Dubuque, was deacon of the Mass, and Rev. Thomas O'Toole of Lucurgus, was sub-deacon. Rev. Edward O'Hagan of Oelwein was the master of ceremonies for the Mass, and Very Rev. John Byrne, V. F., of Eagle Grove was general master of ceremonies for the whole funeral service. A nephew of the deceased, Rev. Francis P. Mulligan, J. C. D., pastor of St. Patrick's Church, at Dubuque, preached the sermon, taking as his text words from the Canticle of the Blessed Virgin Mary and from the Psalms.

Burial took place in Calvary Cemetery where Father Thomas Mulligan blessed the grave and said the last prayers. Pall bearers were Fred Klein, Patrick Maloney, Thomas Griffin, John Henneberry, John Reider and Francis Lynch.
