Last Rites Held For Ernest Barz

Ernest R. Barz was born at Radcliff, Iowa on November 20, 1905 and was the son of the late Robert and Lena Kasischke Barz. He died of cancer on June 22, 1979 at St. Joseph-Mercy Hospital in Mason City where he had been a patient since June 12, 1979. At the age of 16 he came with his family to the Dows area and he was married to Violet McAllister on March 12, 1930 at Hampton. They farmed for a few years near Dows and for 18 years he was a carpenter and school bus driver. Later he was employed by Franklin County as a road maintainer until his retirement at age 65. He is survived by his wife and two children: Glenn of Thornton and LaVonne (Mrs. Vernon) State of Dows. There are four grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Louise Schott of Ft. Worth, Texas, Mrs. Edna Jury of Boone. one brother, Robert of Allison and a sister-in-law, Florence Barz of Latimer. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers. Barz was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Road Runners Campers and called for many square dances. Funeral services were held on Monday, June 25, 1979 at 2:00 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Dows. Rev. James Brasel, chaplain of Mercy Hospital, conducted the service and burial was in Fairview Cemetery. The Willim Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Special music was sung by Mrs. Dennis Kelly and Mrs Robert Larson was the organist. Casket bearers were Roger Fox, Vern Elliott, Rodney Rieken, Dwight Wesenberg. Irving Wiarda, Jr and Darlyle State.
