Thelma Arlene Phillips, Jackson Michigan, Age 86, died peacefully in her sleep on December 12, 2016 at Vista Grande Villa in Jackson. Thelma was born February 14, 1930 in Woolstock, IA, to Orville Warner and Bessie (Welch) Warner. Upon moving to Jackson as a child, Thelma spent most of her life in Jackson and Hillsdale Counties. She worked in various factories in the area, including Western Stamping, making Tom Thumb toys. She loved gardening, traveling, playing BINGO, knitting and crocheting, and for several year made hats for newborns leaving the hospital. She also enjoyed relaxing at the lake and spending time with her family. Thelma was married in Auburn, IN on November 21, 1946, to Earl Howard Phillips. The couple resided in Hillsdale county where they raised three daughters. They were married for 35 years, and he preceded her in death in 1981. Surviving are her daughters, Peggy (Jim) Hinkle, of Jackson and Judy (Larry) Labo, of Lake Worth, FL; granddaughters, Angela Towne, of Delray Beach, FL, and Michelle (Matt Nowick) Phillips, of Cedar Rapids, IA; grandson, Tommy Neal, of Des Moines, IA; great-granddaughters, Remi Towne and Gracie Martinez Towne, both of Delray Beach, FL; her sisters, Mary (Earl) Vanderventer, of Cookeville, TN, Irene (Gary) Kendall, of Scott, MI and Nancy (Chuck) Vandstram of Scott, MI; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Cathy Phillips, four brothers, Robert Warner, Donald Warner, Edward Warner and Hank Warner and sisters, Shirley (Harry) Faling and Lois (Frank) Franklin. Family members are planning a memorial service at a later date.
