Lavonne Marie Nessa, 78, of Eagle Grove, died Friday, February 18, 2005, at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 21, 2005, at the Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor with the Rev. Keith Sievers officiating. Burial was in the East Ullensvang Cemetery.

Lavonne Marie Nessa was born August 1, 1926 in Ringsted, Iowa, the daughter of Alfred and Matilda (Zackser) Harms. After her graduation from Moorland High School in 1944, she was employed by Fort Dodge Laboratories. On January 21, 1951, she married Robert A. Nessa at Fort Dodge. The couple lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado until 1953 when Bob's military service was completed and they moved to Eagle Grove where they farmed. She was employed by the Eagle Grove Community Schools as a teacher's aide at the middle school and elementary school levels. She was active in the Ullensvang Lutheran Church at Thor, the Eagle Grove Country Club, and the Eagle Grove women's bowling league. She loved to golf, bowl, play cards, and travel.

She is survived by her children: Steve Nessa and his wife, Linda, of Eagle Grove; Jan Wright and her husband. Brad, of Windsor Heights; Neil Nessa and his wife, Mary, of Eagle Grove; a granddaughter, Maria Wright; grandsons Ben and Alex Nessa; a sister Velma Budna, of Moorland, a brother, Gerald Harms and his wife. Doris, of Fort Dodge; sisters-in-law, Ruth Harms of Moorland and Margaret Harms of Lytton; sister-in-law, and brother-in-law, Jean and Jack Pemberton of Cassville, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert, in 1974, and two brothers, Irvin and James. The Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of the arrangements.
