April 15, 1898 --- July 13, 1993

Funeral services were held for Grace I. Turk on Saturday, July 17, 10:30 a.m. in the Eyler Chapel, Willim Funeral Home. The Reverend William Mulford, Pastor of the United Church of Christ, Belmond, officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. The Willim Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Organist was Betty Loomis. Pallbearers were her grandchildren and their spouses. They included: Gary Gene Weckerlin, Jr. and wife Christine; David Duane Weckerlin and wife Leslie; Diana Weckerlin Clausson and husband Derek.

Grace I. Turk, the daughter of Charles Homer and May (Eldridge) Hudelson, was born in Emmet County, Estherville, on April 15, 1898. She passed away on July 13, 1993 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. There were 6 girls and 3 boys in her family, Grace being the fifth child. The family moved frequently when they were growing up because of their father's occupation as a train dispatcher. She started school in Frankfurt, Indiana. She also lived in Jamestown, North Dakota; Carbondale, Illinois; St. James, Minnesota and Estherville, Oelwein, Eagle Grove, Oskaloosa and Clarion. In the early 1920's, Grace was living in Oskaloosa and she received a diploma from the Murphy School of Shorthand. She worked for Attorney C. VerPloef and as a bookkeeper for the Oskaloosa Ice and Fuel Company.

She was united in marriage at the home of her parents in Oskaloosa to Edgar Otto Turk of Clarion, childhood friend, on June 15, 1924. She lived in St. Louis, Missouri while Edgar finished college at St. Louis University. They moved to Clarion where Edgar became a Certified Public Accountant, specializing in Federal tax work, insurance and real estate and also organized a state banking institution in Wright County and became an officer of the District Court of Wright County, and of the Supreme Court of Iowa, serving as receiver, appraiser, administrator and executor of many estates, trusts and institutions. In 1952 they moved to Des Moines where she joined the Des Moines Women's Club. In 1958 they returned to Clarion.

On February 4, 1964 Edgar passed away and Grace managed his real estate and land purchases. In 1974 she moved to Des Moines to the Wesley Acres Retirement Home where her sister Geraldine Hudelson and her brother Harry Hudelson and his wife Margery were living. Her love for books and reading took her to work in the library within the facility. She played in many bridge groups there, enjoyed going shopping and visiting with her 3 grandchildren who all attended Drake University in Des Moines. She was living at the Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center at the time of her death. She enjoyed life and living so that she soon became one of the favorites in the Life Center. Her kindness and consideration for everyone is often spoken of by all who knew her. Grace was a 79-year member of the United Church of Christ, Congregational, Women's Association and taught Sunday School. A 62-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary, past Regent of DAR, past Noble Grand and past Chaplain of the Degree Staff of Rebekah Lodge 501, Kensington Club, Country Club and many bridge clubs.

Survivors include one daughter Francine (husband Gary) Weckerlin of Creston, two grandsons; one sister Agnes (husband David) Reese of Oskaloosa, one sister-in-law Mildred (Whidach) Hudelson of Fresno, California, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4 sisters and 3 brothers.
