January 5, 1905 ---- October 13, 1961

Edward Lyle, son of Anna Larson and Frank C. Cooper, was born on January 5, 1905 at Columbus, Wisconsin, and died October 13, 1961, at Albany Medical Center Hospital in Albany, New York. At the time of his death, Dr. Cooper was Professor of Business at New York State University College of Education at Albany. Dr. Cooper attended the public school in Columbus, Wisconsin, and graduated from the high school there. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from State Teachers College in Whitewater, Wisconsin. He taught in the high school, at Eau Claire, Wisconsin, for three years before he entered the State University of Iowa, at Iowa City, where he was awarded a Master's Degree in Business Education in August of 1931. The fall of 1931 Dr. Cooper went to Albany as an Instructor in Business at the State College for Teachers. During his thirty years as a member of the staff of the College in Albany he took, a year's leave of absence to work toward a Doctor of Philosophy degree at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He was, awarded the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy by Northwestern University on June 13, 1942.

During his professional career Dr. Cooper has contributed many articles to magazines used by teachers. For the past twenty years he has been co-author of "World Geography", which is a text book used in many high schools. Pi Omega Pi, honorary fraternity for outstanding students of Business Education, was established at New York State College by Dr. Cooper in 1942. He served as sponsor of this group for sixteen years. He is an honorary member of Alpha Pi Alpha, a social fraternity on the State College campus.

Dr. Cooper is a member of Phi Delta Kappa, Honorary fraternity of students of Education. He is also a member of the American Association of University Professors, the United Business Education Association, the Eastern Business Teachers Association and the StateUniversity; Colleges of Education Faculties, Association. During his undergraduate years at Whitewater, Wisconsin, Dr. Cooper joined St. John's chapter of the Masonic Lodge and has continued to maintain his membership in this organization.

On August 27, 1932 Edward L. Cooper and Margery L. Smith were married at Newton, Iowa. Their present home is located on State Road in Altamont, New York. In addition to his wife, Dr. Cooper is survived by his niece, Mrs. Robert Friederich of Madison, New Jersey, and his nephew, Dr. Arthur Carlson of St. Louis, Missouri.
