Alice Margery Smith Cooper, the daughter of Frank LeMoyne and Katherine Fessler Smith, was born on July 22,1905 at Des Moines, Iowa. She attended school in Newton, Iowa and graduated from the Newton High School in the Class of 1922. She also graduated from Grinnell College in 1927. On Aug. 27, 1931, she was united in marriage with Edward Lyle Cooper at Newton, Iowa. After their marriage, they lived near Albany, N.Y. where Mr. Cooper was a professor at New York State College at Albany. Mrs. Cooper was very active in American Red Cross work while living in New York. Mr. Cooper died in 1961 and in 1962, Margery moved to Eagle Grove. She was a active member of the United Church of Christ and has served as the church secretary for many years, was a former member of the Equality Club and was an active member of the Wright County Republican Women. She loved to garden and raise flowers.

She died at her home in Eagle Grove on Saturday morning, March 5,1983 at the age of 77 years, seven months and 13 days. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Carolyn Crabbe of Eagle Grove; a nephew, James Maurice Crabbe of Cedar Rapids; a niece, Margery Crabbe Stell of Cedar Rapids; two great-nephews, James Brownell Crabbe, and Michael John Stell; six great-nieces, Cynthia Stell of Hemingway, Katherine Stell, Suzanne Stell, Jean Crabbe and Elizabeth Crabbe and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Funeral services for Mrs. A. Margery Cooper, of Eagle Grove were held on Tuesday, March 8, 1983 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Eagle Grove. Rev. Kenneth Reiter officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Visitation was held on Monday at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home.
