Martha Annette Benedict was born June 30, 1867 to her parents, Peter and Anne Brown Benedict, in Livingston County, Illinois. At the age of 15 she came to Iowa with her famiy where they located on a farm near Webster City October 16, 1884, she was married to Lawrence James Nott in Webster City. He preceded her in death on March 2, 1934. Aside from one year spent in Newton, Iowa, where they operated a business, she maintained continuous residence in Eagle Grove, where Mr. Nott was in business for many years. She died December 3, 1950, and funeral services were held December 6th at the Wilson Chapel, in charge of Rev. John Taylor of Fort Dodge. Her survivors are one brother, F. E. Benedict of Butte, Mont, and one sister, Mrs. Harriett Duer of Newton, Iowa., also two nieces, Mrs. Mary Emerson of Eagle Grove and Mrs. Shirley Tannatt of Indianola, who had made their homes with the Notts from childhood. Burial was in the family lot is Graceland cemetery, Webster City.
