Chester L. Edwards, 75, a well known Goldfield area farmer, died on Saturday, March 26, 1983 at the Bishop Clarkson Hospital in Omaha where he had been a patient for the past two months. Funeral services were held from Lake Lutheran Church, rural Renwick, on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m with Rev. Oliver Severson officiating. Burial was in Norway Township Cemetery and the Eyler-Willim Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. T. N. Thompson was the organist and Rev. Everson the vocalist. The grandchildren were casket bearers.
He was born at Rowe, Illinois on January 30, 1908 and was the son of Axel and Sena Lind Edwards. As a child his family moved to Wright County where he received his education. He first farmed with his father. On February 19, 1931 he was married to Iola Enge at the home of her parents near Clarion. For a time he worked for the Whyte Motor Co. of Goldfield and later returned to farming. In 1940 they moved to their present farm. At the time of his death he was a member of the council of Lake Lutheran Church and had served in various offices of the church in past years. He was baptized in Illinois and confirmed at Holmes Lutheran. For 25 years he served as the secretary of the Goldfield Rural Electric Co. and had been on the board of the Goldfield Elevator. His hobby was woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Iola, three daughters Mrs. Robert (Charlene) Smith and Mrs. Jim (Caren) Hill both of Omaha, and Mrs. Eugene (Pam) Hart, Plattsmouth, Nebr. and ten grandchildren. His parents and two sisters preceded him in death.
