Funeral services for Berton L. Ross, 87, were held from the First United Presbyterian Church in Clarion on Friday morning at ten o'clock. Rev. David Saunders officiated and burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. The Eyler Willim Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Robert McCool was the organist and Mrs. Wayne Ebert the vocalist. Bearers were Jerry Woodin, Melvin Lesher, Robert Loux, Larry Ter Hark, Morris Peterson and Wendell Nail.
Born on October 27, 1895 at Ottawa, Illinois, he was the son of John S. and Laura Huss Ross. As a child the family moved to Dayton Township of Wright County where he was raised and educated. He served with the Army in France during WW I. In 1923 he was married to Loretta Lyons at Clarion and they farmed first southwest of town and then south of Clarion. In 1965 they retired and moved to town and later moved to the McBurney Apts. in Belmond. Mrs. Ross died in 1974 and he then returned to Clarion. He died at the Community Memorial Hospital in Clarion on Tuesday, March 29, 1983. He is survived by three sisters and one brother: Mrs. Cecil (Gladys) Pate and Mrs. George (Edna) Peterson both of Clarion; Mrs. Bertha Hinton of Centerville and Dell of Clarion. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Clarion American Legion and V.F.W. He was honored for over fifty years as a member of the American Legion. Military rites were given at graveside.
