Eileen Berneice Voigt, 97, passed away October 9, 2016 at Methodist West Hospital in West Des Moines. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2016 at McLaren's Chapel in West Des Moines with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at McLaren's.
Berneice was born June 10, 1919 near Woolstock, IA to Helmer and Lena Brandt. She graduated from Webster City High School. Berneice was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Des Moines and she enjoyed BINGO, bowling, and big band music. She was also a breast cancer survivor for almost 40 years.
Berneice is survived by two children, Kay Sorensen (Tom Roa) and John M. (Phyllis) Voigt; five grandchildren, Scott (Kim) and Tim (Melanie) Sorensen, Deb (Tony) Malone, Patty (Tony) Davis, and Mike (Nathan) Voigt; seven great-grandchildren, Jake, Millie, Katelynn, Andrew, Ryan, Colin, and Roxy; and five nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon; three brothers; one infant sister; and one nephew. Memorial contributions may be directed to First United Methodist Church, 1001 Pleasant St. Des Moines, IA 50309.
