CHARLES LEE GOATER DIES IN CEDAR RAPIDS
Charles Lee Goater, 63, of Chariton died Tuesday at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids where he moved six months ago. Mr. Goater was retired from the Railway Express Agency. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chariton and a member of the Air Corps in World War II. Survivors include Mrs. Goater; a daughter, Gayla Detweiler of Solon; two sons, Michael of Cedar Rapids and Richard of Goldfield and four grandchildren. Services will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Teahen Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

Funeral Services for Charles Lee Goater, age 63, who died Feb. 1 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness, were held at the Teahen Funeral Home Feb. 4 in Cedar Rapids. Burial was at the Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines. Goater is a former resident of Eagle Grove and Chariton and resided at 161 16th ave. SW in Cedar Rapids before his illness.He is survived by his second wife, Mrs. Laona (Hendricks) Goater; one daughter, Mrs. Gayla Detweiler of Solon; and two sons, Michael of Cedar Rapids and Richard of Goldfield, and four grandchildren.
Charles Lee Goater was born Jan. 13, 1920 in Chariton and worked as an agent for the Railway Express Agency before his retirement. He married Galla Nelson Oct. 20. 1946 and, following her death in 1954, he married Laona Hinderks [Hendricks] Dec. 23, 1956. Goater was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chariton and a Veteran of the Army Air Corps during World War II. A memorial fund was established for the music department of the Immanuel Baptist Church, 1900 F Ave NW in Cedar Rapids.
