Leona F. Knoploh, age 98, of Waverly, died Monday, June 4th, 2007 at the Waverly Health Center. Leona was born on August 22nd, 1908 in Pierson, Iowa, the daughter of Pastor Eduard A. and Emilie Grabe Bischoff. She was baptized on September 6th, 1908 in Salem Lutheran Church, Pierson, Iowa and was confirmed on May 20th, 1923 in Luther Memorial Church in Sterling, Nebraska. Leona attended the Martin Luther Academy and graduated from Sterling Nebraska High School in 1926. She then taught school in Sterling and Beatrice, Nebraska, Buck Creek Country School in Sumner, Iowa and parochial school in Boyden, Iowa and attended summer school at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln to maintain her teaching certificate. On June 16th, 1935, Leona was united in marriage to Pastor Henry J. Knoploh in St. Peters Lutheran Church, Greene, Iowa by her father, Pastor E.A. Bishoff. The couple lived in Crane Creek, Iowa where Pastor Knoploh was pastor at St. John's Lutheran Church until 1941 when they moved to Belmond, Iowa. Following that, they lived in Woden, Iowa, Andrew, Iowa, Boyden, Iowa, and in 1957 moved to Benson, Illinois. They also lived in Crescent City, Illinois, and moved to Monona, Iowa on January 1st, 1975. Pastor Knoploh retired from the ministry on March 1st, 1983 and he and Leona then moved to Waverly. Pastor Knoploh died on March 6th, 1987, and Leona continued living in their home until 5 years ago when she moved to Linden Place in Waverly.

She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and active in the Dorcas Society and sewing circle. She was a member of the Waverly Senior Citizens, interested in ceramics, and also does some quilting, tatting, crocheting, puzzles, and painting.

Leona's memory is honored by her two daughters, Rita Hilbrands and husband Douglas of George, Iowa and Karla Dubree and husband James of Gilman, Illinois, two sisters, Irene A. Misuraco and Irma R. Melzer both of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, six grandchildren, Diane Valland, Teresa LaReau, Richard Dubree, and Scott, Mark, and Dalas Hilbrands, and thirteen great grandchildren, Nate, Erin, Carl, Courtney, Andrew, and Ava Hilbrands, Chad and Tyler Bitner, Jeremy, Brandon, and Amanda LaReau, and Adam and Kelsey Dubree. Leona was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother, Pastor Werner A. Bischoff.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, June 8th at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly with Pastor Robin Ramos officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Waverly. Visiting hours will be Thursday after 12 noon at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home with no set family time and from 10 A.M. until the time of service on Friday June 8th at the Redeemer Lutheran Church with the family present. A memorial has been established in her name.
