Funeral services for Nina Torkelson Abrams, 37, of Urbandale were held Thursday, Oct. 25 at 11:00 am at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Urbandale. Mrs. Abrams passed away at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines following a short illness. Nina Torkelson was born in Humboldt and moved with her family to Thor as a child. She graduated from Eagle Grove High School, attended Waldorf College in Forest City and graduated from Luther College in Decorah. She married Dr. Michael Abrams in 1964 in Humboldt. The family has lived in Urbandale the past eight years. Survivors include her husband, Dr. Michael Abrams; children, Vanessa, 10; Thad, 6; Larissa, 3 and Cory, seven weeks old; mother, Mrs. Amy Dencklau of Vincent; sisters and brothers, Naomi Torkelson, a missionary in India; Mrs. Richard (Lois) Christopher of Thor, Mrs. Cecil (Pearl) Pederson of Renwick, Mrs. Melvin (Jean) Lehman of Eagle Grove; Mrs. Keith (Esther) Presler of Sauke Center, Minn.; Mrs. Donald (Ruby) Thompson of Marshfield, Wisc.; Mrs. Ralph (Beverly) Bowen of Cedar Fails; Arnold Torkelson of Waterloo, David Torkelson of Duncombe, Steven Torkelson of Fort Dodge, Bruce Torkelson of Forest Park, Ill.; step-sisters, Mrs. Orville (Joan) Hammitt of Lehigh, Mrs. John (Marlys) Nesbitt of Humboldt and stepbrother, Charles Dencklau of Fort Dodge.
