Funeral services for Dorothy P Summers, 98, Dayton, were held Tuesday, Oct. 24, 1989 in the chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home, Fort Dodge. Rev. Jacob Vanmantgem, pastor of the United Methodist Church, Woolstock, conducted the 2:00 pm service. Interment was held in the Memorial Park Cenetery, Fort Dodge.
Mrs. Summers passed away Friday afternoon, Oct. 20 at Grandview Care Center, Dayton. During the service Gerald Christensen sang, "In The Garden" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" accompanied by Jerry Christensen. Bearers were Chad Summers, Dan Summers, Rich Summers, Greg Summers, Verl Hoover, Philip Summers.
Dorothy P. Mericle was born on Sunday, Aug. 30, 1891 near Coalville. She was the daughter of Jack and Dora (Springer) Simonson [should be Mericle]. Dorothy attended rural schools and later graduated from Tobin Business College, Fort Dodge. In 1910 Dorothy was married to Harry E. Summers at Fort Dodge. The couple made their home in Pleasant Valley Township and lived north of Coalville all of their married lives. Mr. Summers passed away in 1964. Dorothy moved to rural Lehigh and later to Vincent. She moved to Grandview Care Center, Dayton in 1986. Survivors include sons, Wilbur Summers, Lehigh; Kenneth Summers, Vincent; John Summers, Badger; 32 grandchildren; 99 great grand children; 85 great great grand children and three great great great grand children.
