Maynard D. Rossow, 84, of Fort Dodge, died Thursday, May 14, 2015, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. A service honoring his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 22, at St. Paul Lutheran Church with the Rev. Allen Henderson officiating. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by V.F.W. Post No. 1856 and the Iowa Army National Guard. The visitation is Thursday, May 21, from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. with a time for sharing beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. A memorial scholarship in Mr. Rossow’s name will be established.

Mr. Rossow is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Clarice; his sons, Dana (Crystal) of Coon Rapids, Minn.; Cory (Kristin) of Morgan, Minn.; daughters, Julie (Terry) Madden of Fort Dodge; Amy (Keith) Collins of Edina, Minn.; Christine (Rick) Thompson of Eden Prairie, Minn.; and 15 grandchildren, Erika, Aaron, Johanna, Micah, Laura, Benjamin, Nathanial, Jonathon, Ryan, Joshua, Kristina, Kelly, Ryan, Luther and Liam; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Laura, and his siblings, Eldo, Willard, Allen, Belva Macek and Merlin.

Maynard Dale Rossow, the son of Albert Friedrich Carl and Laura Wilhelmine (Dencklau) Rossow, was born June 14, 1930, on the family farm in Colfax Township. He attended Colfax Country School and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1948. Maynard served in the U.S. Army, during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. Maynard was united in marriage to Clarice Sylvia Johnson. Following his discharge, Mr. Rossow returned to college and graduated from Drake University. He began teaching at Fort Dodge Senior High in 1961 and later received his Masters degree in guidance. He retired from the Fort Dodge Community School District after more than 30 years of teaching.

Maynard was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and a life member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Rossow was known for helping at many Fort Dodge athletic events along with district and state swimming events. He sold tickets at all boys and girls swimming events from 1973 through 2013. He was a 2010 recipient of the Outstanding Service Award for Community Support presented by the Iowa High School Athletic Directors Association.

Maynard treasured time spent with his family and especially enjoyed special moments shared with his grandchildren.
