James Francis Franklin was born February 13, 1900 in Dallas County, Mo., the son of Charlie F. Franklin and Missouri C. McClurg Franklin. He attended the country school near Dayton, Missouri, and grew to adulthood in that area. In 1924, he came to the Eagle Grove area, where he was united in marriage to Helen Odland of Clarion on January 14, 1926. Mr. and Mrs. Franklin became parents of a daughter Velma, Mrs. Robert E. Nelson, now of Santee, California. The Franklins have farmed in the Eagle Grove area since their marriage, and Jim was active until his recent illness. He passed away at the Bethesda General Hospital in Ft. Dodge, on October 13, where he had been a patient since October 4, at the age of 70 years, and 8 months. Mr. Franklin was a member of the Samuel Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Brotherhood. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 1 sister. In addition to his wife and daughter, he is survived by 2 brothers, L. M. Franklin, Eldorado, Kansas; C. A. Franklin, Eldorado, Kansas; one sister, Inez, Mrs. Clayton Cox, Eldorado, Kansas, also 3 grandsons and one granddaughter. Funeral services were held on Friday, October 16 at 2 pm in the Samuel Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Marvin L. Dooley officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove.
