February 17, 1855 ---- September 15, 1938

Ellen Maria Bohanan was born to John and Delia Ann Bohanan in Paris, Wis., Feb. 17, 1855, and died at her home in Eagle Grove, Sept. 15, 1938, at the age of 83 years. She was united in marriage with Penry Evans on July 7, 1874. In October of that year they moved to Wright County, Iowa, and settled on a farm. In 1877 they purchased the farm where they made their home for 30 years. In 1907 they moved to Eagle Grove which has since been their home. Her husband preceded her in death, March 27, 1917. Mrs. Evans lived a long and useful life. During the early days in Iowa, true to the pioneering spirit of that time, she helped many friends and neighbors during sickness and trouble. For a great many years she was an active member of the First Baptist church of Eagle Grove until her health failed.

Surviving are eight children: George of Corwith, Mary Frakes, Myrtle Smith, and Harvey of Eagle Grove, Maude Frakes and James of Woolstock, Elizabeth Puffett of Ames, and Blanche Evans of Chicago, Ill., also 18 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
