Joseph Rutledge Dies of Heart Attack

Joseph Rutledge, 44, Goldfield, died of a heart attack Friday while on a business trip in Toledo, Iowa. Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Ft. Dodge. Mr. Rutledge was buried in Corpus Christi Cemetery with the American Legion conducting Graveside military services. He was born in Perry and then moved to Ft. Dodge where he attended Corpus Christi School and graduated from Ft. Dodge high
school. In March, 1940, he was married to the former Virginia McCarty and they established their home in LaCombe, Alberta, Canada. In 1941 they returned to the Ft. Dodge area where Mr. Rutledge became associated with the Farmers Mutual Insurance Company of Des Moines. He had been with that company for 22 years He formerly resided in Garner, and later in Templeton. He was a World War II veteran and served with the U. S. Army, 88th Infantry Division overseas. In July, 1914, he was wounded in battle in Italy, was decorated with the Bronze Star, returned to United States to Battle Creek, Mich., and hospitalized there for one year. He returned to the Ft. Dodge area in 1915 and made his home in Goldfield. Mr. Rutledge was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his widow, two daughters and one son, William R. Mary Jo, and Christy Jean; his mother, Mrs. Florence R. Rutledge of Ft. Dodge, three sisters, Mrs. Francis Stice of Hayfield, Minn., Mrs. Harold Hogan and Mrs. Sue Mercer of Ft. Dodge; and two brothers, Foster of Atlantic, and Edward S. of High Prairie, Alberta Canada.
