Thomas L. Merrill, 94, of Fort Dodge, died Monday, October 12, 2015, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 15, 2015, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge with Rev. Bill VanNostrand officiating. Burial will be in the Colfax Township Cemetery [Vincent, Iowa] with full military honors conducted by the V.F.W. Post #1856 and the United States Army. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the time of service Thursday at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. The Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services are in charge of arrangements.

Thomas Lawrence Merrill, the son of Leon and Florence (Chambers) Merrill was born on September 27, 1921 in Fort Dodge. He graduated from Otho High School and then served in the Army Air Corps during World War II from October 3, 1942 until August of 1945. Following his discharge from the military, Tom farmed for many years. On August 12, 1945, Tom was united in marriage to Lena Hepperle.

Tom is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lena; their two sons, Richard (Maureen) Merrill of Fort Dodge and Dean (Elaine) Merrill of Urbandale, Iowa; three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandsons, a great granddaughter, one brother and four sisters. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
