Wayne Zabel, 74, of Fort Dodge, died August 27, 2016 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Funeral services will be held 10:30 Friday, Sept 9, 2016 at Gunderson Funeral Chapel. Interment will be held in Colfax Cemetery [Vincent, Iowa]. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 Thursday, Sept. 8 at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Wayne Phillip Zabel, the son of Albert and Mabel (Wegman) Zabel, was born February 18, 1942 in Duncombe, Iowa. He attended and graduated from St. Paul Lutheran School. Wayne served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1968. On September 4, 1965, he was united in marriage to Mary Sue Silbaugh. Wayne enjoyed farming and he worked and retired from Webster County Road Maintenance after 33 years. Wayne loved being with his family and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mary Sue; his daughters, Jacqueline Oberhelman, Shelly Zabel, Barbara (Stacy) Gordon; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer Reedy, Joshua Oberhelman, Justin Oberhelman, Mackenzie Oberhelman, Matthew Oberhelman, Taylor Lumsden, Schafer Lumsden, Nicholas Gordon, Justice Gordon, Madison Gordon and 4 great grandchildren, Alexandrea, Katelyn, Masen, and Johnathen Reedy; his siblings Leila Peterson, Edward Zabel, Jeannine Kopecky, Jerald Zabel and Marilyn Hanson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Roy Zabel. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
