Lena M. Merrill, 93, of Fort Dodge, died Sunday, February 14, 2016 at Unity Point Hospital in Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge with Rev. Bill VanNostrand and Rev. Nicholas Thackery officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the time of service Thursday at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1436 - 21st Avenue North in Fort Dodge. Burial will be in the Colfax Township Cemetery [Vincent, Iowa]. The Gunderson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lena Mary Hepperle, the daughter of Charles and Lina Hepperle, was born on December 17, 1922 in Fort Dodge and she grew up on the family farm in Cooper Township. On August 12, 1945, Lena married Thomas Merrill. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in August 2015. Lena is survived by her two sons, Richard (Maureen) Merrill of Fort Dodge and Dean (Elaine) Merrill of Urbandale, Iowa; three grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, her parents, two grandsons, a great granddaughter and her brother, Carl Hepperle. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the Lord's Cupboard in Fort Dodge.
