Kenneth W. Summers, 94, of Vincent, died Tuesday, August 16, 2016, at the Grandview Care Center in Dayton. A service honoring Kenneth’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel. Military honors will be conducted by V.F.W. Post No. 1856 and the Iowa Army National Guard. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family.

Kenneth is survived by his wife of 75 years Caroline; his children, Roger Summers, Fort Dodge; Carol Locke, Otho; and Helen Louise Schroeder, Somers; six grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Earl, Wilbur, John and Howard.

Kenneth W. Summers, the son of Harry and Dorothy (Mericle) Summers, was born February 24, 1922, near Fort Dodge and he attended country school. On August 2, 1941, Kenneth was united in marriage to Caroline Heidick in Fort Dodge, where they made their home. Kenneth served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving with the combat engineers in the European Theatre of Operations. Following his discharge, he returned to the area and made his home at Evanston and then Vincent. Kenneth worked for the gypsum mills and then for many years with Kallin-Johnson Monument Company before retiring in 1982.
