March 15, 1919 ---- August 13, 2016

EUREKA, Ill. — Dorothy V. Foster, 97, of Eureka, Illinois, formerly of Clarion, Iowa, East Moline and Washington, Illinois, passed away Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka.

She was born March 15, 1919, in rural Hamilton County, Iowa, to William C. and Edith (Schmidt) Kennedy. She married Ralph E. Doty on Nov. 30, 1939, and later married Clarence H. (Jack) Foster on Feb. 11, 1967, in Moline. He preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Ronald and James Kennedy, and three sisters, Ramona Williams, Deloris Oxley and Shirley Scott. She is survived by three sons, Gary L. (Mardel), Bartlett, Illinois, Daniel D. (Beverly), Eureka, and Rodger E. (Judy) Doty, Sonoma, California; and two sisters, Iris Bagnard and Zola (David) Kinnick; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She will be remembered for her sweet, positive nature, acceptance of others, the beautifully crafted designer dolls she crocheted for her sisters, and for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dorothy also crafted many beautiful quilts for family members, and cross-stitched, knitted, crocheted and did crewel embroidery.

She was a lifelong Christian who taught vacation Bible school and helped start a new congregation while she was a teenager. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Clarion for many years, and for the last 49 years was a member of First Baptist Church in Moline, where she faithfully attended Bible study and served the congregation in other ways as her health issues permitted.

A funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, with Pastor David Kinnick officiating at First Baptist Church, Moline. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Moline, or Crossroads United Methodist Church, Washington. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka for the great care they provided to Dorothy in her final days with us.
