April 8, 1906 ------ February 2, 1981

William Milnes Trowbridge, lifelong Clarion resident died Monday evening February 2, 1981 at the age of 74 years. He had been at the Clarion Care Center after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held Friday, February 6th at the United Church of Christ Congregational with the Rev. Carl Jensen officiating. Interment was at the Clarion Evergreen Cemetery with Eyler-Willim Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Special music was furnished by Betty Loomis at the organ. Pallbearers were Mel Robie, Bernie Case, Jim Jerde, Sam Douglas, Guy Lund and Don Sadler.

William Milnes Trowbridge was born to William Henry and Susan Milnes Trowbridge on April 8, 1906 at Clarion. On May 31, 1931 he was united in marriage to Carolyn Mary Varner of Cedar Rapids. To this union was born one son, William Terrill. Following his graduation he became employed by the Iowa Public Service Company. He served in various capacities and was local manager when he retired in 1971 after 47 years of service with the company. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, his son William Terrill, a daughter-in-law, Lois, two grandchildren W. Todd and Jill of St. Louis, Missouri and one sister Bernice E. Payne of Clarion. Preceding him in death was his brother Lyle, his parents, two sisters, Miriam (Mrs. E. M. Cook) and Esther (Mrs. L. H. Enos). Mr. Trowbridge was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational of Clarion. He was a 50 year member of the Cyrene Masonic Lodge #325, a past commander and member Mt. Lebanon Commandry #61, Medina Council #26, Eagle Grove chapter #123 Za-Ga-Zig Shrine and Order of the Eastern Star. He was a former member of both the Lions and the Rotary Clubs. Until his health prevented it he was very active in Clarion Housing Inc. He served as vice president and was instrumental in getting this project started in 1970 in Clarion.
