Nellie Thompson Fraser
Nellie May was born February 1, 1887 to Irvin and Lucy Stroup on a farm north of Holmes. In the fall of 1892, the.family moved to Holmes where Nellie lived until her marriage to Lewis Thompson on December 5, 1906. To this union, three sons were born, Irvin who died at birth, Orville and Lee. In January 1919, the Thompson family moved to Colorado Springs, Colo, due to Lewis's health. Lewis died Jan. 22, 1922 after returning to Eagle Grove. Nellie was city clerk in Eagle Grove, sold insurance and operated a candy store. She later moved to Webster City where she was District Manager of Mutual Life Insurance Co. Nellie returned to Holmes after her mother died and lived with her father until her marriage to Morris Fraser in 1938. They lived on the farm south of Holmes until his death in 1962 when she moved to Clarion. Here she resided until her death Feb. 1 at the age of 94.

She is survived by one son Orville Thompson and wife Ruth of Keystone Heights, Florida, two grandsons, James of Orlando, Fla., and Michael of New Freedom, Penn. and four great grandchildren. Her son Lee preceded her in death December 1975. Also surviving are her sister Edna Foster in Arizona and a sister-in-law Myrtle Stroup of Holmes, two brothers, Lloyd and James preceded her in death. Five step children, Bernice, Phyllis, Emmett, Glen and Donald, many step grandchildren, great step grandchildren and three great great step grandchildren remain. Maxine, another step daughter, preceded her in death.

Nellie was a charter member of the Holmes Baptist Church, past president of the Business and Professional Woman's Club of Webster City which she helped to organize. Funeral services were from the Holmes Baptist Church on Wednesday morning at 10:30. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery at Goldfield and the Eyler-Willim Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Rev. Peter Adams conducted the funeral and the organist was Mrs. George Baker. A duet was by Mrs. Edward Stupka and Mrs. Marvin Stupka. Bearers were Dallas Campbell, William Clark, Jerry Hinton, Harry Lewright, George Peterson and Edward Stupka.
